Two former VW executives go on trial
Two former Volkswagen executives have gone on trial in Germany over alleged corruption at Europe's biggest car maker.
The Braunschweig trial charges Klaus Volkert, chairman of VW's powerful works council for 15 years, with 48 counts of inciting breach of trust, Deutsche Welle reported. Former personnel manager Klaus-Joachim Gebauer faced 40 counts of breach of trust and charges of incitement to fraud.
This is the third trial related to a sex-and-bribery scandal that linked VW management and the works council.
Earlier this year former VW executive Peter Hartz was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and fined $844,330. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
