Ukraine hopes for resuming power supply to Moldova
Ukrainian began talks on resuming its electric power exports to Moldova, Ukrainian mass media communicate with reference to Minister of Fuel and Energy Yury Prodan.
He did not exclude that the supply will be resumed in July.
"We have already received such proposals from the Moldovan side", the Minister said.
Until 2009 Moldova was the main consumer of Ukrainian energy (40% of its exports in 2008). However, in October Ukraine declared the increase of the average electric power price for Moldova since 2009 by 77.11% or by 3 cents per 1 kWh - up to 7.5 cents. Moldova preferred to conclude a contract with the Moldovan Regional Power Station [located on the east bank of the Nistru River, controlled by Transnistrian separatist regime], which belongs to the Russian Inter RAO EES. The station will supply electric energy to Moldova at least until March 31, 2010 for 5.6-5.8 American cents per 1 kWh. After this the Ukrinterenergo offered to supply electric power 10% cheaper. Moldova produces less than one third of the consumed energy and it acquires the remaining energy volume.
