Vitalie Iurcu: Moldtelecom doesn't intend to buy Eventis
The rumors that President Vladimir Voronin forces the Moldtelecom state enterprise to acquire the Eventis Russian cellular communication company for a fabulous price are ungrounded and are disseminated with the only purpose – to misinform the public opinion.
New Moldtelecom Director General Vitalie Iurcu estimated MNA Leader Serafim Urechean’s statement in this way.
The press release, sent by Moldtelecom to Infotag, expresses misunderstanding in the connection with such statement, which have nothing to do with the real situation.
Eventis Mobile received a GSM-license at the end of 2006 and it became the third GSM operator at the Moldovan market after Orange and Moldcell. A year late it launched its activities by having invested US$35 million in the network development.
The company was going to cover the entire republic with its network and to provide about 100 thousand subscribers with mobile telephony. It planned to invest US$114 million in the development of its network in Moldova. The telephony operator hoped to gain its first profits in 2008 and to occupy 25% of the telephony market by 2010.
However, at the beginning of 2009 Russian mass media reported about problems in the Eventis Telecom holding and its intention to sell a control block of shares in the Eventis Mobile Moldovan operator to the Tele2 or T-Mobile companies.
