Vlad Filat: Moldova holds constructive dialog with foreign donors
The Moldovan Government has held an open and constructive dialog with the representatives of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and donor countries, Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated on Monday evening.
Throughout the day, the meeting between Moldovan Cabinet members and officials from the WB, IMF and donor countries was held at the Chateau Vartely Company in Orhei town.
"We discussed the economic and financial situation in Moldova. The republic has found itself in such a poor condition not solely due to the global economic crisis, but also because proper measures failed to be taken in due time", said Vlad Filat.
He addressed to the expert community and the mass media to not speculate on the IMF conditions to be put forth for signing a Memorandum on cooperation with Moldova. He stressed that without the knowledge of all details and nuances of the negotiation process, ill-thought or erroneous conclusions may upset the signature of the document so important for the country.
The World Bank Regional Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, Martin Raiser, remarked that for the first time ever, the representatives of the WB, IMF and donor countries received a possibility to work in such a way with the Moldovan Government and to clarify all the details of the Cabinet's economic program that requires a financial backing.
Mr. Raiser said all the interlocutors quested for the best variant of financing the reforms Moldova is implementing.
From talks in the meeting's lobby, your Infotag correspondent learnt that very much in the foreign funding for Moldova will depend on whether or not the new Moldovan authorities succeed in reaching an accord with the International Monetary Fund and achieve the signature of a Memorandum with the Fund.
"The availability of such document in the Government's hands will serve a green light for financial resources from other sources - funds, banks etc. that may furnish means for Moldova at very advantageous terms", a conference participant told Infotag, and suggested waiting until the end of the IMF mission's work on October 26.
