Volvo reports January-May 2007 truck deliveries

Volvo Group's total truck deliveries including Nissan Diesel, decreased 10% to 82,865 units through May this year, compared with the year-earlier period. Deliveries from Nissan Diesel only include the period since the company was consolidated as of April 1, 2007, April to May 2007.

Mack's deliveries through May totaled 7,179, down 55% compared with the year-earlier period. The slowdown was expected due to new emission regulations which became effective on January 1, 2007.

Renault Trucks' deliveries were down 9% to a total of 30,657 trucks through May, compared with the year-earlier period. This still takes into account the non availability of the Renault Mascott Euro 4 which is due for delivery at mid year, representing a loss of 5,500 units. The new model, Renault Maxity, shows satisfactory sales results after being put on the market in March.

Deliveries increased in all markets with the exception of North America, the largest individual increase being noted for Volvo Trucks in Eastern Europe, where deliveries during the period rose by a full 83% to 6,935 trucks (3,793). Demand for heavy trucks in the South American market is growing, deliveries rising 30%. Asia, including the Middle East, also showed strong demand and truck deliveries, sales rising by 14%.

The total decrease in Volvo Trucks' sales was fully attributable to the expected temporary decline in North America, due to the new emission regulations which became effective on January 1, 2007, deliveries in North America declining by 60% during only the first five months of the year.
