Voronin: Russia asks no political price for $500M
Moldova hopes to receive the first USD 150M tranche of a USD 500M Russian credit already in August-September 2009, Moldova's acting President Vladimir Voronin has told the Interfax news agency.
Voronin said that the possibility of giving Moldova a $500M credit was discussed during his recent 18 July visit to Moscow where he participated in a CIS informal summit and a horse race for the Russian Federation president's prize.
"I have already drawn attention to the particularities of this credit. Russia has put forward no tough conditions usually characteristic of some international organizations and, I repeat, it has not and it does not ask any political price for this support. This is Russia's one-time but very substantial contribution to the Moldovan economy," Voronin underlined.
In order to avoid making this issue a political one, all details related to this credit and its use will be discussed after the 29 July early parliamentary election, Voronin said.
"We have already established for what purposes these funds will be used. Roads, infrastructure and water supply are the key arear os investment," Voronin said.
