World Bank, IMF to help Moldova to overcome economic crisis
The World Bank, in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund and donor countries, is proposing to the Government of Moldova to jointly work out and introduce a national anti-crisis program.
Meeting with Moldovan Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett said the above-mentioned international partners stand ready to provide immediate assistance to Moldova and to use every possible way to help overcome the crisis.
Melanie Marlett told Mihai Ghimpu that when Moldova concludes a program of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank will organize a meeting of Moldovan government members and the Brussels consultative group with participation of major donors to Moldova [the United States, Japan, Russia, the Netherlands, Germany].
The Republic of Moldova has been cooperating with the World Bank since 1992, and the Bank has to date financed 58 projects totaling US$775 million. Currently, 29 projects are being realized here to a total amount of US$270 million. The cooperation is based on the 2009-2012 Strategy of cooperation with Moldova, approved by the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors in January 2009.
