The number of officially registered millionaires in Moldova amounted to 62 people in 2006 against 45 people in 2005, told Sergiu Puscuta, Head of the Principal State Tax Inspectorate (PSTI), in a Friday press conference.

Although the number of people with revenues over 1 mln lei is growing, the Tax Inspectorate states a reduction of the income taxes for 2006.

According to Puscuta, the total volume of income taxes paid in 2006 reduced by 1.8 mln lei as compared with the previous year, and totalled 183.4 mln lei.

On the other hand, the total amount of the gross income earned by individuals during 2006, according to the submitted statements, increased by 818.6 mln lei (41.26%) up to 2.8 bn lei.

During the conference, the head of the PSTI noted that currently only 120,000 taxpayers have already submitted their income tax statements for 2007. The deadline for submitting the income tax statements for 2007 is March 31, Puscuta reminded.

The same source informed that several days before the Tax Inspectorate had successfully tested the Electronic Statements service (E-statements), which implies submittal of tax statements online. At the first stage, this service will be available only for the biggest taxpayers of the country, Puscuta specified.  // BASA-Press
