The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) expressed its willingness to finance several investment projects in Chisinau municipality, including the building of the purification station in Chisinau, the Mayoralty press service informs.

Discussions to this end were held on Wednesday, April 9, during a meeting of the EBRD delegation with mayor of the capital, Dorin Chirtoaca.

The delegation was represented by Michael Daeky, EBRD Director for Moldova, Caucasus and Belarus, Paul Covenden and Karolis Dekeris, chief bankers of the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Department, accompanied by Octavian Costas, chief banker of the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Department, Chisinau office.

The mayor informed the EBRD delegation that the priority directions that need immediate investments are the water supply and sewerage system, the purification station in Chisinau and urban public transport.

The EBRD experts were interested in the projects submitted by the local governments, in particular, the construction of the Purification Station in Chisinau, which foresees investment of 75 mln EUR.

At the same time, the EBRD delegation noted that these investments can be successfully used only in the case the Chisinau Municipal Council will approve a real tariff to water and sewerage or will shift to another form of organization such as the public-private partnership. SA Apa-Canal is asking for some time now to raise tariffs for consumers, motivating that it has to bear enormous losses. // BASA-Press
