EBRD invigorating its activities in Moldova
The EBRD is satisfied with the results of its activities in Moldova in 2007 and intends to invigorate its cooperation this year, First Vice-President of the bank Varel Freeman has said in the course of his meeting with Moldovan Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu in Chisinau.
As Infotag has already reported, the EBRD delegation is currently paying its three-day working visit to Moldova. The delegation includes also Director of the Business Group for Southeastern Europe, Caucasus and Asia Olivier Descampsa and Country Director, Director for Southeastern Europe, Caucasus and Asia Mike Davey. In 2007 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed in Moldova an agreement on seven projects for 36 million lei euros. The third part of these financial resources will be used for supporting activities in the private sector. According to the EBRD country office’s statement, the bank intends to make a particular stress on supporting the Moldovan banking sector. Up to the present the bank granted 80 million euros of credits to Moldovan banks. In March the EBRD approved a number of new credit lines for financing the banking sector in the amount of 70 million euros, which are designed for crediting small and medium enterprises. The development of infrastructure, in particular, the reconstruction of roads is another important sector for the EBRD. Together with the World Bank (WB) and the European Investment bank it is implementing a project, worth 35 million euros. The EBRD also plans to initiate projects in the field of transport, power engineering and municipal infrastructure. From the beginning of its activities in Moldova in 1992 the EBRD implemented 49 projects in the frame of which it granted credits in the amount of 205 million euros. // Infotag Publication date: 24 April 2008 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- EBRD to increase crediting for moldova - Premier Greceanii discussed with EBRD official the prospects of cooperation between Moldovan and the Bank - EBRD is willing to finance construction of the purification station in Chisinau - EBRD studies the possibility of supporting the financial sector from Moldova - EBRD strengthens SME funding in Moldova Latest news
