Exports rose 26.4% in first quarter
Exports in the first quarter of this year came to US$346.9 million, an increase of 26.4% compared with the corresponding period last year. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, exports to the EU member states came to US$179.9 million, making up 52%.
Exports to Romania totaled US$64.8 million, an increase of 36% compared with 2007, to Italy – US$39.1 million (26%), to Germany - US$20.2 million (5.7%), to Poland - US$11.6 million (46.4%), to France - US$91.1 million (11%). Exports to the CIS states added up to US$139 million, making up 40% of the total exports. They rose by 51% compared with the first quarter of 2007. Exports to Russia increased by 52.8%, amounting to US$65.3 million, to Ukraine – by 26% (US$34.3 million), to Belarus – twofold (US$22.2 million), to Kazakhstan – 1.7-times (US$0.3 million).
