Imports totaled US$1.45bn over January-March 2008
Imports in the first quarter of this year added up to US$1.45,8 billion, an increase of US$37.8 million compared with January-March 2007.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the imports of mineral products increased by 31.4%, of transport units and materials – twofold, of vegetal products – 1.8 times, of chemical products – 25.3%, of food products, beverages and tobacco – 63.3%, of plastic, rubber and objects from these – 30.3%, of wood pulp, paper, cardboard and objects from these – 36.8%, of objects made from stone, plaster, cement, clay, glass and similar materials – 22.6%, etc. Imports from the EU member states added up to US$462.9 million, making up 44.2% of the total imports. Imports from the CIS made up 36.8% of the total imports, amounting to US$384.4 million. Imports from Romania rose by about 60% on 2007, from Russia - 35 %, Ukraine - 26%, China – 58.2%, Turkey - 51%, Belarus - 35%, Italy - 19%, Japan – 2.5-times, the Netherlands – 2.4 times, the UK – 2.2 times, Austria – 2.5 times, the U.S. – twofold, France – 35.2%.
