Moldova’s debt to the Russian gas giant Gazprom without penalties was US$1.046,5 billion at the start of this year. It rose by 24.6% or US$207 million during the last year. The announcement was made by the chairman of Moldova-Gaz’s Administration Board Ghennady Abashkin at the general meeting of shareholders.
According to Abashkin, Moldova’s debt has increased mainly due to the rise of US$201.5 million in Transdniestria’s debt. He said that Moldova owes Gazprom US$160.6 million without penalties, while Transdniestria – US$885.9 million.
Abashkin also said that Transdniestria pays for gas consumption at a very low level.//
