Igor Dodon will report on Moldova’s social-economic development at yearly meeting of EBRD governors

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon is participating in the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) held in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev between May 18 and 20.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Dodon will deliver a speech on the progress made by Moldova in the social-economic sector in 2007, the development of the internal and foreign trade, the implementation of structural reforms and economic liberalization reforms, and on the privatization process in Moldova.

While in Kiev, Dodon will have meetings with the EBRD First Vice President Varel Freeman, the Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank Raphael Alomar and the Vice President of the European Investment Bank Eva Srejber.

The officials will consider the possibility of implementing new projects in Moldova, like the building of the high pressure gas pipeline Balti-Ungheni, the construction of interconnection power lines Suceava (Romania) - Balti (Moldova) and the road modernization project. They will also discuss issues related to infrastructure, small and medium-sized business, energy, water supply, regional development etc.

Last year, the EBRD had allocated about 36 million euros to Moldova to implement seven projects.

EBRD was founded on May 29, 1990 with an authorized capital of 20 billion euros. Sixty-two countries are shareholders of the bank. Moldova became a fully-fledged member of the EBRD on May 5, 1992. Now, it holds 2,000 shares worth 20 million euros in the bank // Reporter.MD
