Moldova could become member of European Energy Community
The European Energy Community is ready to open talks and consider accepting Moldova as a fully-fledged member of the Community. Such a statement was made at the fourth meeting of the Ministerial Council of the European Energy Community in Brussels, which is attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade of Moldova Igor Dodon.
According to the press service of the Economy Ministry, it was decided that the talks will start in September 2008. The Ministerial Council praised the Moldovan authorities for the way in which the solve the conflicts in the area, making reference to the signature of a conciliation agreement by the National Agency for Energy Regulation and RED Union Fenosa on June 20. The agreement eliminated the divergences over the interpretation of certain clauses from the new methodology of calculating the electric power rates. The European Energy Community was founded on October 25, 2005. Its aim is to create a joint space for regulating the energy markets in the EU and South-Eastern Europe. The organization brings together the EU member states and Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.
