Moldova pays more for Russian gas from June 1
Moldova will purchase Russian natural gas for an estimated price of US$240 for 1,000 cubic meters as from June 1. This price is by about 13% higher than in April-June.
According to representatives of Moldova-Gaz, the final price for the third quarter will be fixed by July 10, after the information about the evolution of oil prices in the past nine months is systematized. The price of Russian gas is fixed according to the method stipulated in the contract signed by Moldova and Russia’s gas giant Gazprom. The contract is valid until 2011. From January 1, 2008, the price of gas supplied to Moldova is raised quarterly, depending on the evolution of oil prices in the past nine months. ![]() In the first quarter of this year, Moldova purchased Russian natural gas for US$187.81 per 1,000 cubic meters, while in the second quarter – for US$213. Until 2011, the gas price is to reach the European average. Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon is in Moscow on a working visit to discuss issues related to the acquisition of Russian gas in the third quarter of this year.
