Meat sellers take to the streets again
After five weeks of protests, the patentees that sell meat decided to continue the demonstrations. They will stage a protest march in Chisinau on July 7. The protesters will set off from Stephan the Great Boulevard and will stop in front of the Presidential Office, demanding that they are allowed to sell meat under patent.
Eugen Roscovanu, the president of the Small Business Association, said on July 2 that patent holders from different districts of the country will take part in the protest march. He also said that the march will end with a protest in front of the Presidential Office. They will protest in reaction to President Vladimir Voronin’s statement that among the protesters are “rather plump women”. “The meat retailers received permission to continue the protests in front of the Presidential Office every Monday, until this yearend,” Roscovanu added. “We also defend the interests of the people that produce meat as we facilitate the sale of meat on the market. If we set up individual companies, we, and the state as well, will sustain excessive losses,” one of the protesters, Angela Grumeza, said. She added that they cannot live on the salaries provided by the state. Roscovanu said that they have filed three petitions to the President, asking him that he talks to them, but received no answer so far.// Reporter.MD Publication date: 02 July 2008 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Meat sellers say banning of patent favors meat imports - Beef producers selling meat with E. coli - Recall forces Topps Meat to close - Moscow suspends meat imports from one of three accredited Moldovan companies, information refuted by firm Latest news
