Meat sellers say banning of patent favors meat imports
Several hundreds of meat traders from different regions of the country protested in the center of Chisinau for several hours on July 7, demanding that the authorities allow selling meat under patent.
The protesters staged a protest march, going along Stephan the Great Blvd. They stopped in front of the Residential Office and chanted ‘Shame!’, ‘We will not give up!’, ‘We want patents!’, ‘Let us sell the meat under patent!’ etc. Some of the protesters were accompanied by the whole family, including elderly people and children. The protesters came from such districts as Donduseni, Falesti, Leova, Balti, Ungheni, Orhei, Causeni, and Sangerei. Contacted by REPORTER.MD, the president of the Small Business Association Eugen Roscovanu said that the meat retailers are determined not to give up and the protests will continue until the authorities satisfy their demands. “I don’t think that a receipt will change the situation and the meat sold will be of another quality,” Roscovanu said. “We have protested for more than a month, but the President does not wish to listen to our grief,” one of the protesters, Lilia Liliev, told REPORTER.MD. She said that the banning of meat sales under patent favor the import of meat and this is not of benefit to the population. Eugen Roscovanu also said that they received a formal answer to the three petitions they filed to the Presidential Office. The answer proves that “de facto, the authorities do not understand the essence of the problem”. The meat sellers have protested in downtown Chisinau since the end of May. The Chisinau City Hall allowed them to hold protests in front of the Presidential Office every Monday until this yearend.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 07 July 2008 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Meat sellers take to the streets again - Beef producers selling meat with E. coli - Recall forces Topps Meat to close - Moscow suspends meat imports from one of three accredited Moldovan companies, information refuted by firm Latest news
