Government will try to alleviate effects of new gas price

When the Russian gas company Gazprom announces the new natural gas price for Moldova, the Government will try to reduce the effects of the new rise and support the socially-vulnerable groups of people.

The statement was made by Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi at a news conference held to mark 100 days of the appointment of the new Government.

“We cannot aim our efforts only at negotiating lower gas prices, but we will aim to support the socially-vulnerable groups of people,” the Premier said.

According to Greceanyi, effort was made to obtain a lower price for the Russian gas, but the higher prices stem from the rise in the world crude oil prices.

According to unofficial sources, the new price could vary between 240 USD and 260 USD per 1,000 cubic meters. Under the contract signed by the Government of Moldova and Gazporm in 2006, the price of the gas supplied by Russia to Moldova will be raised up to the average European level until 2011.//REPORTER.MD
