Transnistria’s exports rose 53% in first half of 2008
The Transdniestrian companies over January-June 2008 exported goods to the value of 4.653 billion lei (US$465.4 million), an increase of 53% compared with the corresponding period last year.
According to the Ministry of Reintegration, the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant exported about 401,000 tonnes of iron-and-steel products worth US$292 million. This is 62.7% of Transdniestria’s total exports. The plant now exports to 31 countries, in contrast to 15 countries a year before. The Transdniestrian economic entities exported products of the light industry to the value of US$68.2 million (14.7% of the total exports). This is by 33.2% more than a year before. The finished products such as suits, coats, trousers, shirts, shoes, boots and other items made up 48.1% of the exports, the bedclothes – 38.8%, while the cotton fabrics – 13.1%. The Rybnitsa Cement Plant exported 428,000 tonnes of cement worth US$48.5 million. This is 10.4% of the total exports from the Transdniestrian region.
