Moldova will not pay Transdniestria’s debt for Russian natural gas
The consumers from the right bank of the Dniester will not pay Transdniestria’s debt for Russian natural gas, the president of Moldova-Gaz SA Ghennady Abashkin said.
The statement was made in the context of the latest reports that the International Commercial Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Russia ruled in favor of Gazprom in a case against Moldova-Gaz and ordered that the latter pay US$42 million of Transdniestria’s debt for gas. Ghennady Abashkin said that under an agreement signed with Gazprom, the right and left banks of the Dniester pay for the consumed Russian gas separately. Moldova-Gaz only manages the supply of gas to Moldova. ![]() According to Abashkin, the responsibility for the unauthorized supply of gas to Transdniestria and the intentional sale of gas at reduced prices must be born by the Transdniestrian economic entities that admitted this. The president of Moldova-Gaz said that Transdniestria can pay for the Russian gas at the fixed price. According to statistics, Transdniestria’s exports in the first half of 2008 totaled US$500 million. “It is evident that the region has money to pay for the gas,” Abashkin said. Transdniestria’s debt for gas over January-June 2008 rose by US$132.6 million. Moldova owes US$1.810 billion to Gazprom. Out of this sum, US$1.472,6 billion is Transdniestria’s debt.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 22 July 2008 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Balti-Ungheni gas pipeline will be ready by next spring - Gasoline and diesel oil prices reduced - Eighteen new gas pipelines will be constructed by next summer - Moldova-Gaz debt to Gazprom at US$1.8bn - More Russian natural gas transported via Moldova - Transdniestria’s debt for Russian gas is increasing - Gas and electric power compensations have been raised - Natural gas, electric power and heating charges raised - Russia provided over US$14m in aid to Transdniestria in 2008 - Moldova will pay US$253 per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas in Q3 Latest news
