Central bank says July deflation was the result of measures implemented by it and government

“The July deflation of 0.9% shows that the policies pursued by the National Bank and the Government of Moldova are appropriate,” the central bank says in a communique.

According to the National Bank, the pieces in July decreased as a result of the joint measures carried out by the Government and the Bank such as toughening up of the monetary policy and fiscal-budgetary policy, insurance of free competition on the market etc.

Consumer prices in July this year fell by 0.9% on last July, after the food prices decreased by 3.3%. The yearly rate of inflation was 13.4%.

Experts forecast that the 2008 inflation will be 14.2%. The central bank projected single-digit inflation for this year. According to IDIS Viitorul, the prices in autumn will increase significantly following the rise in the prices of public utilities.//REPORTER.MD
