Matsushita recalls 6,000 batteries
Matsushita is recalling 6,000 lithium-ion batteries used in its Panasonic computers in the latest in a series of scares about over-heating.
Dell and Apple recalled nearly six million Sony-made batteries used in laptops last month amid concerns they could catch fire in some circumstances. The batteries used in the Panasonic brand computers are not made by Sony. Matsushita did not indicate who made the batteries for its Let's Note CF-W4G computers, produced in 2005. The company said the problem related not to the battery itself but to faulty latches on the battery cover which could result in damage. This, in turn, could lead to the batteries changing shape and over-heating. The recall - only affecting computers sold in Japan - is much smaller than those undertaken by Dell and Apple. Dell asked customers to return 4.1 million laptop batteries while Apple sought the recall of 1.8 million batteries worldwide. Publication date: 05 September 2006 Source: Archive ADsLatest news
