Toyota top selling car in Singapore for fifth straight year
Singapore (dpa) - Toyota emerged as the top selling car in Singapore for the fifth straight year in 2006 followed by rival Nissan, the Motor Traders Association (MTA) said on Friday.
In a switch, Honda reclaimed third place from Hyundai, which slipped to fourth. Car sales hit a record with buyers purchasing 117,000 new vehicles. The top 10 brands made up more than 80 per cent of sales consisting of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Kia, Mazda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet. Toyota's agent Borneo Motors sold more than 24,000 new cars including about 2,000 Lexus luxury models, said the MTA. Nissan sold 14,754, Honda sold 10,823 and Hyundai, 10,009. Mitsubishi chalked up the best growth by selling 8,658 cars, 2,349 more than in 2005. BMW and Mercedes-Benz were the only European brands that made it into the top 10 list. Industry players predicted competition will be intensified by the arrival of more Chinese cars. // © 2006 DPA Publication date: 05 January 2007 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Top Prize in winemaking will go to Vinaria Purcari - Fincombank will raise its interest in carpet factory Floare-Carpet - The number of cards in circulation reduced during January-March 2008 - FDA approves warning for carbamazepine - Insurers see Medicare profit prescription - Magna Intl. to make BMW's Mini-brand SUVs - Oil man sentenced in oil-for-food scam - Two former VW executives go on trial - China tougher market for U.S. car sales - Australia facing loss of Toyota operations Latest news
