Transdniestria would settle Russian gas debts in two years

Transdniestria plans to pay for the gas supplied by the Russian gas giant Gazprom in proportion of 100% in two years, head of the parliament in Transdniestria Evghenii Schevchuk told the reporters last weekend.

"We know what happened in Ukraine last year and in Belarus this year. That’s why, not considering the relations with Russia, we must pay for the gas at world prices,” he said.

According to Schevchuk, the money from consumers that will go to pay for the gas will be accumulated in a special account and transferred to Gazprom. In such a way the money will reach the destination directly and would not be used for other purposes.

Transdniestria owes about $1.2 billion to Gazprom. From January 1, 2006, Transdniestria pays $110 per thousand cubic meters of Russian gas. The level of payments for the gas supplied in 2006 was under 60%. // Reporter.MD
