The number of U.S. workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits soared last week to the highest level in more than nine months.
Initial claims for jobless benefits swelled by 23,000 to 352,000 after seasonal adjustments last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal said continuing claims were climbing even higher, suggesting that once-robust U.S. labor markets were softening.
That's the highest level since Feb. 10, when claims were at 356,000.
