U.S. stock indexes fell Tuesday morning amid renewed credit fears and rising mortgage defaults ahead of next week's U.S. Federal Reserve meeting.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 19.10 or 0.14 percent to 13,295.47 in late morning trading. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 6.18 or 0.42 percent to 1,466.24.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index shed 7.09 or 0.27 percent to 2,63.04.
Japan's Nikkei 225 stock index finished down 148.78 points, or 0.95 percent, at 15,480.19.
The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note lost 4/32, yielding 3.86 percent, while the 30-year bond was down 6/32, yielding 4.332 percent.
The U.S. dollar fell to 109.69 yen from 110.49 yen in New York late Monday. The euro was up to $1.476 from $1.4668.
