Transnistria plans to pay integrally for consumption of Russian gas by 2012
Transnistria plans to pay 100% for the current gas supplies from Russia by 2012, stated Transnistrian Minister of Industry, Pyotr Stepanov, RBC Agency informs.
The same source noted that to achieve this goal, it is planned to increase the gas tariffs for final consumers in Transnistria, because the current ones do not cover the purchase price and the cost price for gas provision. Also, the minister stressed that Transnistria is to reduce at the same time the consumption of imported energy resources. According to Stepanov, once the gas price rise, the question of using energy conservation technologies, such as river energy, wind energy and biofuel, becomes topical in the region. "All these, certainly, will not replace the main energy sources, but will reduce the Transnistria's dependence on such resources", he said. The publication also specifies that at present Tiraspol buys gas from Gazprom at 170 USD per one thousand cubic meters. In 2008, the gas price in Transnistria will amount to 192.75 USD per one thousand cubic meters. Referring to Transnistria's debt for Russian gas, the Transnistrian minister said that in 2007 the region's arrears increased by more than 100 mln USD, and the total amount of debt, including penalties, totals 1.5 bn USD. // BASA-Press Publication date: 26 December 2007 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Balti-Ungheni gas pipeline will be ready by next spring - Gasoline and diesel oil prices reduced - Eighteen new gas pipelines will be constructed by next summer - More Russian natural gas transported via Moldova - Transdniestria’s debt for Russian gas is increasing - Gas and electric power compensations have been raised - Natural gas, electric power and heating charges raised - Moldova will not pay Transdniestria’s debt for Russian natural gas - Consumers will pay 2,970 lei to be connected to gas pipeline - Transnistria’s exports rose 53% in first half of 2008 Latest news
