Japan to help develop small businesses and tourism in Moldova

Japan stands ready to render assistance to the development of small businesses and tourism in Moldova, stated Mr. Hitoshi Ozawa, Director, Central and South Eastern Europe Division European Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The diplomat told your special Infotag correspondent in Tokyo today that these questions will be discussed in the framework of the official visit the Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Mr. Andrei Stratan will pay to Japan on January 28 through 31 on the invitation of the Government of Japan. The Moldovan guest will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Mr. Masahiko Komura.
“We are aware that Moldova works to attract investment and develop tourism. Relations between our countries in these fields have been under-developed, so far, and we hope the forthcoming visit should promote their development”, said Hitoshi Ozawa.
According to him, in February 2008 Moldovan specialists will take part in a seminar on the development of tourism between Japan and South East European countries, and in a forum dedicated to the efficiency of small and medium-size businesses.
Mr. Ozawa further held, “We seek to develop relations both on a bilateral basis and within international organizations. Japan is interested, in particular, in cooperation within the GUAM frame. In 2007, the first meeting of foreign ministers in a GUAM+Japan format was held in Baku [the capital of the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan, in the Caucasus region]. There, participants discussed questions of environment protection and energy saving. In the future, we will discuss other essential problems with the GUAM states, and we are going to render assistance to their building democratic societies and developing market economies.”
He said these questions would be tackled also during the forthcoming visit of Andrei Stratan to Tokyo. Hitoshi Ozawa expressed hope Moldova would be actively participating in cooperation in the framework of the GUAM [a regional organization uniting Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova].  // Infotag
