U.S. stock indexes slipped Monday, following Friday's downward activity when markets couldn't sustain gains made Wednesday and Thursday.
In midmorning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 40.81 points, down 0.3 percent, to 12,166.36. Standard & Poor's 500 futures slipped 6.02 points to 1,324.59, off 0.45 percent, and the Nasdaq composite index also fell slightly, off 18.52 points, off 0.8 percent to 2,307.68.
Crude oil prices also fell slightly in early morning trading, off $1.46 to $89.25 per barrel.
The 10-year treasury note was down 8/32, yielding 3.584 percent.
The dollar was mixed with the euro traded at $1.4672 compared to $1.4772 late last week. Against the yen, the dollar traded at 106.83 yen, compared with 106.88 yen late last week.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 4 percent Monday.
