Premier Tarlev pronounced in favor of reforming Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry
Premier Vasile Tarlev pronounced in favour of reforming the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and revision of the farmer subsidization system.
During the sitting on Tuesday of the MAIA board, the premier stressed the necessity of a quality reform of the ministry and specified that it is not further possible to ensure an efficient management of the agri-food sector with the help of old methods, therefore, new methods of managing processes in this industry need to be developed. The premier asked to speed up the reorganization of the institutions subordinated to MAIA so that the administration system in agri-food industry is line with the European standards, where the policy development and implementation functions are divided. At the same time, Tarlev stated that the vulnerability of the agricultural industry before the acts of God requires that the existent system be revised by supporting the local producer and by implementing a new farmer subsidization system. These principles are already provided for at the first stage of implementation of the Regulation on ways of using resources of the farmer subsidization fund in 2008, the premier said. At the same time, the premier noted that despite the difficulties Moldova faced in 2007 – the drought, embargo on exporting agri-food products – the food security of the country was ensured, and the farmlands were processed to a great extent. This fact, in the opinion of the head of Executive, is the most important achievement of MAIA in 2007. The premier appreciated the modernization and mechanisation actions in the agricultural sector by the establishment of machine technological stations and referred to the activities of the ministry in consolidating farmland. Tarlev stressed the necessity to implement consistent actions to promote farmland consolidation policies, which, according to him, will in turn contribute to the establishment of more favourable conditions for obtaining competitive production, farmer support, development of agricultural product market, land market and adjustment of the agricultural sector and agri-food industry to European standards. // BASA-Press Publication date: 05 February 2008 Source: Archive ADsRelated links- Premier Vasile Tarlev resigns - Future Prime Minister should be one of the current members of the Government - Premier Tarlev was dissatisfied by the “extremely bureaucratic” way of working of “lower level” public servants - Premier Tarlev: asymmetric trade system is an extraordinary chance for Moldovan economy Latest news
